Circular economy challenges demand an integrated approach in which the private sector, government, civil society and knowledge institutions all play a part: waste management and creating an enabling environment for business and innovation are typically government task, knowledge institutions typically research new technologies and educate youths, private companies create new products out of waste, offer waste management and recycling solutions or provide innovative solutions promoting resource efficiency and civil society facilitates awareness raising and offers non-commercial services. With this in mind, the Circular Business Platform Lagos is an initiative to bring the various stakeholders and their initiatives together, strengthen them and work towards a shared agenda to transform the city of Lagos into a thriving circular economy.

African Circular Economy Network (ACEN) with support from the Consulate of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Lagos , Holland Circular Hotspot, and other collaborating partners including Circular Economy Innovation Partnership (CEIP) support the establishment of the CBP in Lagos to support local CE development and to enhance the knowledge and business cooperation between Nigeria and the Netherland. A preparatory study was carried out to collect more concrete insights and results from the ecosystem as well as come up with a sustainable business model and a suitable body to host the platform. The outcome of the preparatory study, as carried out by ACEN, is that there is broad support by the ecosystem for the establishment of a CBP in Lagos, championed by a voluntary steering committee of circular economy champions.
