Plastic products tires and used car parts are inappropriately disposed of in large quantities in Lagos Lagoon which is leading to serious problems. Surface water in Lagos is often polluted by sewage. Not only is this an eyesore, water is unsafe for human consumption. It affects marine habitat and the health of those who consume it. There are also high concentrations of heavy metals in groundwater sources that are close to waste sites. Chemical and bacterial pollution are likewise responsible for a growing number of cases of dysentery and cholera in Lagos
